(Including a 17-day hike over the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE19Wp1WphjaEA8kNpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1634420265\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fPyrenees\/RK=0\/RS=bORXXBuoWqrAsgX5MBteXK_.Ppo-\" target=\"_blank\">Pyrenees<\/a>&nbsp;section of the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A2KLfSDIjXxh7t8A_aJpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1635581513\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fCamino_de_Santiago\/RK=0\/RS=no_XoH_CL3snnwf_fNy740.yT7A-\" target=\"_blank\">Camino de Santiago<\/a>.) But I also noted that I\u2019ve been working on&nbsp;another<strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>project, an&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7JV9j3xhnZ0AqIppCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1635581949\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fEbook\/RK=0\/RS=RxJ.bjX.KGY3GMrUfWx77FeNKMI-\" target=\"_blank\">E-book<\/a>&nbsp;about turning 70 in 2021. (Adding that I have to finish soon, &#8220;because&nbsp;<strong><em>turning 70 is like losing your virginity: &#8216;You can only do it once!<\/em><\/strong>&#8216;\u201d) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On that point, there&#8217;s good news and bad news. The good news is that the book is almost ready to publish &#8211; in&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7JV9j3xhnZ0AqIppCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1635581949\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fEbook\/RK=0\/RS=RxJ.bjX.KGY3GMrUfWx77FeNKMI-\" target=\"_blank\">E-book<\/a>&nbsp;and paperback formats. (Which I hope will happen this weekend; no later than November 21.*) The bad news is that I haven&#8217;t had a chance to do another post <strong><em>at all<\/em><\/strong>, since after last October 30. (Almost three weeks ago, and that was on <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=11613\">Holden Caulfield<\/a>.) So &#8220;What I&#8217;m gonna did&#8221; &#8211; as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ61mLDpdh4wwAhIxpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637318412\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fJustin_Wilson_%28chef%29\/RK=0\/RS=AjL9EbNMvK3oUma2snXWXLDpl0c-\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Wilson<\/a> would say &#8211; is review a relevant post from the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn&#8217;t take long to find one, and a troubling one at that. In a post from last January 10, 2021, I asked a rhetorical question,  <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=8915\">\u201cYou DO understand that Trump is temporary<\/a>?&#8221; But after reviewing that post &#8211; and events of the last few months &#8211; I then had to add, <strong><em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=8915\">Or maybe not<\/a>?&#8221; <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s &#8220;maybe not,&#8221; as in Trump seeming to rise from the political ashes, not unlike the proverbial <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7J4gA5hhhl0ATBVpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzMEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637381024\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fidioms.thefreedictionary.com%2frise%2blike%2ba%2bphoenix%2bfrom%2bthe%2bashes\/RK=0\/RS=oU8ivGIMNRhZBGdQGPHOE2CZH4E-\" target=\"_blank\">Phoenix<\/a>. Or maybe it&#8217;s more accurate to say rising again, <strong><em>like a &amp;^%$ Zombie<\/em><\/strong>. (Which the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE1xS3AZhhypwAtBBpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzQEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637380664\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fdictionary.cambridge.org%2fus%2fdictionary%2fenglish%2fzombie\/RK=0\/RS=gU2XDM_6AIziUmQ3FAoE_Tk9.sA-\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a> defines as a frightening creature, a seemingly&nbsp;dead person&nbsp;&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/brought\">brought<\/a>&nbsp;back to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/life\">life<\/a>, but without&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/human\">human<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/quality\">qualities<\/a>.*&#8221; And Zombies are said to be unable to think and are often shown &#8220;as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/attack\">attacking<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/eat\">eating<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/human\">human<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/being\">beings<\/a>.&#8221;) <strong><em>But on to that last-January post&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">* &nbsp; * &nbsp; * &nbsp; *<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I posted <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=8915\">\u201cYou DO understand<\/a>\u201d on January 10, 2021, just four days after the events of&nbsp;Wednesday, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geJaPxFJdha3wAhVlpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637320049\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2f2021_United_States_Capitol_attack\/RK=0\/RS=yyMkivzv96gUM7kO0sLv9o9qD10-\" target=\"_blank\">January 6, 2021<\/a>. That day Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) called them the \u201c\u2018<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE1xI9I_pfjpgAv0tpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzgEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1610257341\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.breitbart.com%2fclips%2f2021%2f01%2f06%2fgop-rep-gallagher-banana-republic-crap-capitol-riots-are-the-cost-of-effort-to-object-to-electoral-college%2f\/RK=0\/RS=w8uloXU43TLbpdaqC0uPvhVdHiQ-\" target=\"_blank\">Banana Republic Crap\u2019 Capitol Riots<\/a>,\u201d and asked Donald Trump to stop the chaos. &#8220;You are the only person who can call this off. Call it off. The election is over. Call it off.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wrote that the following days &#8211; Thursday and Friday &#8211; things started looking up. That former Trump allies were saying \u201cenough is enough,\u201d that 52 rioters had been arrested, and that even some staunch Republican Senators were &#8220;open to impeachment&nbsp;<strong><em>or<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>use of the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ61t70flf1ukAyj5pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzIEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1610236412\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fTwenty-fifth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\/RK=0\/RS=cmvE9ZpwjnIRrTbMD1VPRdm08DE-\" target=\"_blank\">Twenty-fifth Amendment<\/a>.&#8221; I also noted, &#8220;Right now I wouldn\u2019t want to be in Donald Trump\u2019s shoes.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Why? Because the metaphoric \u201cnoose\u201d is tightening around his neck<strong><em>&nbsp;ever<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;so slowly, but surely, in an agonizing foretaste of what\u2019s in store once he leaves the protection of his office. (See&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=7349\">\u201cThe rope has to tighten SLOWlY<\/a>,\u201d&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE1xpFP_pfMbQAisdpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzMEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1610264517\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.thefreedictionary.com%2fvis-a-vis\/RK=0\/RS=KbKXGoHlwwHIx9iAkE5MxwCYPi4-\" target=\"_blank\">vis-a-vis<\/a>&nbsp;what&nbsp;\u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7JZn3i9bZZ8ALClpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529892583\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fDeep_Throat_%2528Watergate%2529\/RK=0\/RS=.mZSHJp2wzZrZspyP6PaaQ66kc8-\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Throat<\/a>\u201d told reporter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bob-Woodward\/e\/B000APXDGS\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1\">Bob Woodward<\/a>&nbsp;about the 1974 conspiracy investigation against then-president Richard Nixon.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But alas, I may have been premature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I wrote almost a year ago that there might be a positive note:&nbsp;That the reaction to Trump\u2019s presidency might &#8220;provide the foundation for an era of democratic renewal and vindicate our long experiment in self-rule.\u201d Which hasn&#8217;t happened yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also noted that the number-crunching on the 2016 election showed \u201chow&nbsp;<strong><em>fragile<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;Trump\u2019s hold on the public is.\u201d To which I added, \u201cI\u2019ve been saying the best weapon against Trump is his own big mouth.\u201d Not to mention his&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ6ymjKfpfdPEAYCxpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzUEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1610258979\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fHubris\/RK=0\/RS=ZESE8aJAsfewZYSvqbez0l1LpcE-\" target=\"_blank\">hubris<\/a>. (\u201cWhat? You mean I can\u2019t tell supporters to storm the Capitol, and not be held responsible?\u201d) But so far, he&#8217;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7JjbNplhtJ0AsIFpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzYEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637459803\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.idiomeanings.com%2fdodge-a-bullet%2f\/RK=0\/RS=q_HViRrNu7lg2EVcMDn6VwOOjFo-\" target=\"_blank\">dodged the bullet<\/a> on that one too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as our &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ61RydlRdh5kAMoJpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1565845234\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fsocratic.org%2fquestions%2fwhat-did-president-ford-mean-when-he-said-that-our-long-national-nightmare-is-ov\/RK=0\/RS=FRFdVWdSdbDEAI_ubnqx9AFYuJ0-\" target=\"_blank\">long national nightmare<\/a>&#8221; being over, there&#8217;s the fact that Trump&#8217;s star seems to be rising once again. See for example, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geJaS_N5lh0GAAuW5pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637460031\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.news.com.au%2fworld%2ftrump-trounces-biden-in-new-iowa-poll%2fvideo%2f9dd1f3d71d63ccc4d484135b7eef2e82\/RK=0\/RS=eVrg8R7.AGwSNkmQlPlyiONJCOs-\" target=\"_blank\">Trump trounces Biden in new Iowa poll<\/a>. (From November 16, 2021. But here&#8217;s a note. In the 2020 election Trump won Iowa by eight points, so in fact over the past year he&#8217;s only gained three point. I&#8217;d hardly call that a &#8220;trouncing,&#8221; given all that&#8217;s gone wrong over the past few months. And three years is a long time in politics.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of which raises the possibility that Trump just might get elected to a second term. Which might also have happened if the attempted January 6 coup had been successful. But once again I tried to look on the bright side. That &#8220;freed from a need to pander to his wacko base,&#8221; Trump might develop a conscience and start thinking seriously about his legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>[W]ho knows?&nbsp; If:&nbsp; 1) Trump did get re-elected in 2020, and 2) no longer had to worry about throwing raw meat at his wacko base, and 3) started seriously thinking about his legacy&nbsp;<em>(or developed a conscience, or started appreciating that he\u2019s \u201ccloser to the end than to the beginning\u201d)<\/em>, he might actually evolve \u2013 as [P.T.] Barnum did \u2013 into a \u201chumane, effective and<strong><em>&nbsp;ethical<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;politician.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>On that note, on last January 7 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7FfO0vlfhLEAx7ZpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzUEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1610236750\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.politico.com%2fnews%2f2021%2f01%2f07%2fnancy-mace-trump-legacy-455749\/RK=0\/RS=vhdAJYapOYWzWsE0rZn2BEUoJb8-\" target=\"_blank\">GOP Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said Trump\u2019s legacy was \u2018wiped out\u2019 by the Capitol riot<\/a>. But again, that may not be true. &#8220;In light of the foregoing,&#8221; I had to go back and re-write the <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=8915\">\u201cYou DO understand<\/a>\u201d post. I noted the sleepless nights I had before the election, which have since returned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But all might not be lost. Like I said before, three years is a long time in politics. For example, in 2019 &#8211; just before the COVID hit &#8211; \u201cDonald Trump was riding high, and looked a shoe-in for re-election.\u201d Just like Joe Biden nearer the beginning of this year. In turn there <strong><em>is<\/em><\/strong> the specter of Conservatives taking control of both houses of Congress, and clogging things up even more. But that in turn could sour voters on the Republican party even more.
