Meanwhile, in the last few days since I got home, there&#8217;s been a lot of political hubbub in the news. As in <a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ61sMoJZd398AhhJpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBybGY3bmpvBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570181260\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2ffortune.com%2f2019%2f09%2f27%2ftrump-impeachment-poll-latest-support%2f\/RK=0\/RS=cvDxfI2EoP5mc0bxmOafXRJvLCk-\" target=\"_blank\" data-c2a=\"5d96a00ca44dd\">Trump Impeachment Poll: Public Support Rises<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So before starting any posts on my recent adventure-pilgrimage, it might be good to review some posts I did in the past. <strong><em>About<\/em><\/strong> Donald Trump. Like the one predicting he&#8217;d &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5410\" rel=\"bookmark\">be impeached within two years<\/a>.&#8221; <em>(Which cited another past post, from <strong>before<\/strong> the election, asking if Trump might be the &#8220;new Maverick in town.&#8221; See April 2016&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=4000\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cIs there a new \u2018Maverick\u2019 in town<\/a>?&#8221;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We missed that deadline, from November 2016. On the other hand we <strong><em>are<\/em><\/strong> coming up on three years into his first term. <i>(Putting aside <\/i><em>&#8211; &#8220;<u><span style=\"color: #005000;\"><a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7FhSR5pdbe4AMLlpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXQ0NThjBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwM1BHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570420690\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fTable_%28verb%29\/RK=0\/RS=ceQMwUbzuWgQagAaKx448PUjeBU-\" target=\"_blank\" data-ba8=\"5d9a4752e04df\">tabling<\/a><\/span><\/u>*&#8221; &#8211; the <\/em><em>question whether he&#8217;ll have a second term.)<\/em> And yet many people still support him. Why? One possible answer might have come in last April&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=8223\" rel=\"bookmark\">On Oscar Wilde and our \u201ccriminal heroes<\/a>.&#8221; It came in turn from an article in the Jan\/Feb 2019 <a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrE1x8fTZpdxCoAh3ppCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570422176\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.nationalgeographic.com%2fhistory%2fmagazine%2f\/RK=0\/RS=6q7CI1JlZrxBOV6FJAqLW42IqB0-\" target=\"_blank\" data-ee2=\"5d9a4d2012ee3\">National Geographic History Magazine<\/a>, &#8220;<a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrE1xt2TZpd4UYAiAtpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570422262\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.nationalgeographic.com%2farchaeology-and-history%2fmagazine%2f2019%2f01-02%2finfamous-missouri-outlaw-jesse-james%2f\/RK=0\/RS=ZCRcj4vT5FBZ2sEpJ3ynCbvI3oE-\" target=\"_blank\" data-237=\"5d9a4d76c28db\">Jesse James: Rise of an American outlaw<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It seems that Wilde was in America in 1882 &#8211; in St. Joseph, Missouri \u2013 the week after <a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=A2KLfSxAsKhcLaIAtTJpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1554587840\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fJesse_james\/RK=0\/RS=__Y4h44HwDZn7ipOEci1ELwMybk-\" target=\"_blank\" data-a62=\"5ca8b040a6594\">Jesse James<\/a> was killed. Thus he witnessed &#8220;firsthand the mad clamor for relics of the outlaw at an auction of Jesse\u2019s household belongings.\u201d That led Wilde to observe: <strong><em>\u201cAmericans are certainly great hero-worshipers, and always take their heroes from the criminal classes.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Which &#8211; as I said &#8211; could explain the continuing support of Donald Trump from a large part of &#8220;the sovereign people.&#8221; Then too, Americans tend to admire &#8220;rebels&#8221; as well, as explored in the post-election (11\/16) post, <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5584\" rel=\"bookmark\">Donald Trump \u2013 The new Johnny Yuma<\/a>? Which included this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I have to admit I\u2019ve been pretty much\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/stymie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">stymie<\/a>d since the election, last November 8. The best I could come up with since then was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5510\">\u201cTrump is like a box of chocolates<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 [11\/13\/16<em>&#8230;]\u00a0 <\/em>It\u2019s as if the\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Muses<\/a>\u00a0have abandoned me. On the one hand I want to be fair and not cranky. <em>(Like so many other people my age.) <\/em>But on the other hand I have this deep sense of\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/foreboding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">foreboding<\/a>\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which sense of foreboding could be coming to fruition &#8220;even as we speak.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And which brings up a common phrase in this blog, &#8220;past Trump-posts.&#8221; It <strong><em>could<\/em><\/strong> be related to another new word, <a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1570404634507_257\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrE194beZpdI_sAMyBpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBybGY3bmpvBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570433435\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.urbandictionary.com%2fdefine.php%3fterm%3dtrumpgret\/RK=0\/RS=jeQYO_4WjMRv6DW1zIewh9F6yZI-\" target=\"_blank\" data-751=\"5d9a791bedc69\">Trumpgret<\/a>. See <a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrE194beZpdI_sANyBpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBydDI5cXVuBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwM2BHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570433435\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.debatepolitics.com%2fgeneral-political-discussion%2f365497-new-word-trumpgret.html\/RK=0\/RS=csFt8m1X9BvQvKCa_UvL0wcUV44-\" target=\"_blank\" data-751=\"5d9a791bee34b\">New Word: Trumpgret! &#8211; debatepolitics.com<\/a>. <em>(A word &#8220;bandied about by many voters that now &#8216;regret&#8217; having voted for Trump in 2016.&#8221;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But getting back to Trump as a rebel. The Yuma post noted that I &#8220;<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_(verb)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Googled<\/a>\u00a0the words &#8216;Donald Trump rebel&#8217; and got 46,300,00 results.&#8221; And that one such link was the article, <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2016\/06\/2016-donald-trump-south-confederate-flag-racism-charleston-shooting-213954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">How the Rebel Flag Rose Again \u2013 and Is Helping Trump<\/a>.\u00a0 <em>(&#8220;That title pretty much speaks for itself.&#8221;)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/8\/89\/Robert_Ford_shooting_Jesse_James.jpg\" width=\"223\" height=\"149\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Which I suppose means that the current Democratic House of Representative&#8217;s moves to impeach Trump can be seen &#8211; by <strong><em>some<\/em><\/strong> Americans anyway &#8211; as the functional equivalent of \u201c<a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7FQesahcq8wA_kdpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1554588062\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fThe_Assassination_of_Jesse_James_by_the_Coward_Robert_Ford\/RK=0\/RS=90cNSZK8pR6qrMT0IQM7ERkdnmw-\" target=\"_blank\" data-f6f=\"5ca8b11ecea0b\">the dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard<\/a>,&#8221; as illustrated at right.*<em> (If I&#8217;m being too subtle,\u00a0 Trump is portrayed as the &#8220;heroic Jesse James.&#8221;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then there was another post from the past,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5686\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cI dreamed I saw Don Trump last night<\/a>.&#8221; It asked the musical question:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>50 years from now [could] that dulcet-toned lass [<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Baez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joan Baez<\/a>] be\u00a0singing that\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">ode<\/a>\u00a0to Donald Trump to the tune of\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PX7M9psH0rM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">\u201cI dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night<\/a>[?]&#8221; <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Baez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joan Baez<\/a>\u00a0sang the original song \u2013 about Joe Hill \u2013 most memorably at <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Woodstock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Woodstock<\/a>,\u00a0back in the summer of 1969.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That post noted that &#8220;in some strange way\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 educated at the\u00a0<a title=\"New York Military Academy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Military_Academy\">New York Military Academy<\/a>, then the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Wharton School\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wharton_School\">Wharton School<\/a>&#8221; and worth over three billion dollars* \u2013 &#8220;has somehow become a hero to the (white) American working man.&#8221; It also noted that comparing Trump to famed labor activist and union organizer <u><span style=\"color: #0b0115;\"><a class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ62ClVZpd0WEAsgBpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1570424358\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fJoe_Hill\/RK=0\/RS=5xBfS9qY5P6REvT0QKiXD9vJSKE-\" target=\"_blank\" data-4f0=\"5d9a55a68b8a5\">Joe Hill<\/a><\/span><\/u> might not be such a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>That is, like Jesse James and other noted &#8220;rebels,&#8221; Joe Hill died young. <em>(At 36.)<\/em> In one line from from <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PX7M9psH0rM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">\u201cJoe Hill<\/a>,\u201d Baez sang, \u201c\u2018The Copper Bosses killed you Joe, They shot you Joe\u2019 says I.\u201d That is, in 1914 Utah officials charged Hill with murder, resulting in a trial that became a sensation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The case turned into a major media event. President <a title=\"Woodrow Wilson\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Woodrow_Wilson\">Woodrow Wilson<\/a>, <a title=\"Helen Keller\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helen_Keller\">Helen Keller<\/a> (the blind and deaf author and fellow-IWW member), the Swedish ambassador and the Swedish public all became involved in a bid for clemency. It generated international union attention, and critics charged that the trial and conviction were unfair.
