Eisenhower and Nixon ended those wars and were rewarded with landslides.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s where the\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522461719082_145\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7F0W7L5ajs0AXR5pCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522490518\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fPoint_of_Order\/RK=0\/RS=OGCz3XsZW.lrfPHmIcfa4_wvT4Y-\" target=\"_blank\" data-bc6=\"5abeec16dd750\">point of order<\/a>\u00a0comes in.\u00a0 That is, a point of order is a rule of <a title=\"Parliamentary procedure\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parliamentary_procedure\">parliamentary procedure<\/a>, by which an objection &#8220;may be raised if the rules appear to have been broken.\u00a0 This may interrupt a speaker during debate, or anything else if the breach of the rules warrants it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/f\/f4\/Anticommunist_Literature_1950s.png\/220px-Anticommunist_Literature_1950s.png\" width=\"193\" height=\"294\" \/>The irony is that the term &#8220;point of order&#8221; was made famous &#8211; or\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522612450819_352\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7FfiOMFa6tQAuiBpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522641251\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.thefreedictionary.com%2finfamous\/RK=0\/RS=_EdT8temNW0VmJ3sbLcNMsQ8ztc-\" target=\"_blank\" data-4cc=\"5ac138e35e932\">Infamous<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; by\u00a0<a title=\"Joseph McCarthy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_McCarthy\">Senator Joseph McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0during his &#8220;reign of terror&#8221; in the 1950s.\u00a0 That time in our history spawned the term <a title=\"McCarthyism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McCarthyism\">McCarthyism<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; illustrated at left &#8211;\u00a0which today refers to the use of &#8220;<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Demagogy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Demagogy\">demagogic<\/a>, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as public attacks on the character or patriotism of political opponents.&#8221;<em>\u00a0 (But apparently the term is not used enough today to refresh our collective memory.)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522461719082_145\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7F0W7L5ajs0AXR5pCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522490518\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fPoint_of_Order\/RK=0\/RS=OGCz3XsZW.lrfPHmIcfa4_wvT4Y-\" target=\"_blank\" data-bc6=\"5abeec16dd750\">point of order<\/a>\u00a0involved Buchanan&#8217;s saying that Richard Nixon ended the Vietnam War that Lyndon Johnson &#8220;got us into.&#8221;\u00a0 Now, just <strong><em>when<\/em><\/strong> the Vietnam War started is a matter of heated debate, but one thing is clear:\u00a0 Lyndon Johnson wasn&#8217;t the one who &#8220;got us into&#8221; Vietnam.\u00a0 Another point?\u00a0 We <strong><em>now<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0know that it could have ended in 1968.\u00a0 And it could have been ended <strong><em>by<\/em> <\/strong>Lyndon Johnson, but for Nixon&#8217;s intervention.\u00a0 So it&#8217;s hard to say that Nixon &#8220;ended&#8221; the war that &#8211; but for his intervention &#8211; could have ended before he became president.\u00a0 Had he been an honorable man, the war would have ended and Nixon probably wouldn&#8217;t have been elected.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Briefly, LBJ gave Nixon secret information about the\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522612686548_317\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=A0geKeXNOcFaVxEAw19pCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBybGY3bmpvBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522641486\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fParis_Peace_Accords\/RK=0\/RS=dxM8x3536zAc2cp_NtKHcY0m6Bg-\" target=\"_blank\" data-c96=\"5ac139ce271d0\">Paris Peace Accords<\/a>, in 1968.\u00a0 In turn, Nixon twisted the information around so that it got him elected, in the\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522612764469_327\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7FQbOsFak48AlhJpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522641564\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fUnited_States_presidential_election%2c_1968\/RK=0\/RS=SI8LPOxCxiHkFaZo5jBCncOu2pQ-\" target=\"_blank\" data-904=\"5ac13a1ca26d5\">presidential election of 1968<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/0\/0c\/VNAF_Huey_full_with_evacuees.jpg\/300px-VNAF_Huey_full_with_evacuees.jpg\" alt=\"VNAF Huey full with evacuees.jpg\" width=\"279\" height=\"224\" \/>The cost?\u00a0 18,000 Americans died in Vietnam between 1968 and\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522612840979_541\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ61ZoOsFaeVoA945pCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522641641\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2f1975_in_the_Vietnam_War\/RK=0\/RS=.dDmSU3dGyniRuU6altSxV5QDcs-\" target=\"_blank\" data-05c=\"5ac13a6931bcb\">1975<\/a>.\u00a0<em> (When the war ended in American humiliation.)\u00a0<\/em> I covered the issue in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5357\" rel=\"bookmark\">Another \u201cdeja vu all over again<\/a>?&#8221;\u00a0 That post &#8211; but not limited to &#8211;\u00a0<a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522613056420_332\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=A0geKLpAO8Far9gAa1tpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522641856\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fDwight_D._Eisenhower\/RK=0\/RS=Z95hgLDTXiXNfQvNRlKhCZbh97A-\" target=\"_blank\" data-3ed=\"5ac13b408c70b\">Dwight D. Eisenhower<\/a>.\u00a0 And he could have ended it in 1968, but for Nixon&#8217;s treason.<\/p>\n<p>And about Harry Truman &#8220;getting us into the <a id=\"yui_3_10_0_1_1522614067121_1027\" class=\" ac-algo fz-l ac-21th lh-24\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrBT.IyP8Fafj4APRppCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1522642867\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fKorean_War\/RK=0\/RS=LbTtrH9hqj8Af4HQuvOoCtosRqY-\" target=\"_blank\" data-89e=\"5ac13f334235c\">Korean War<\/a>:&#8221;\u00a0 The facts &#8211; Mr. Buchanan &#8211; are that the\u00a0<a title=\"Korean People's Army\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Korean_People%27s_Army\">(North) Korean People&#8217;s Army<\/a>\u00a0invaded South Korea at dawn on June 25, 1950.\u00a0 The Truman Administration hesitated to respond at first.\u00a0 They weren&#8217;t sure whether\u00a0the invasion &#8220;was a ploy by the Soviet Union or just a test of U.S. resolve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Only <strong><em>after<\/em><\/strong> he&#8217;d gotten a secret communique &#8220;indicating the Soviet Union would not move against U.S. forces in Korea&#8221;
