No, this isn’t a\u00a0caricature<\/a>\u00a0of Donald Trump. \u00a0(But this alligator mississippiensis<\/a>\u00a0is<\/strong> smiling nicely…)<\/em><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 *<\/p>\n

May 31, 2017 – It’s been tough getting back to blogging on a regular basis. That’s what I noted in the last post, dated May 12, 2017: \u00a0From 11\/8\/16: \u201cHe\u2019ll be impeached within two years<\/a>:”<\/p>\n

\n

…aside from a \u201cpain in the back<\/a>,\u201d I\u2019ve undergone some other\u00a0big \u00a0life events<\/a>\u00a0including but not limited to a[n eye] surgery<\/strong>\u00a0…\u00a0to have a lens put back in one eye [as shown a[bove] right]… \u00a0But now things have calmed down a bit, even if only in my own life. Which means I can get back to\u00a0blogging<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Unfortunately, it still hasn’t been easy. \u00a0One big reason is my recent life events – “including but not limited to” – included the long, drawn-out process of first Buying a House<\/a>, then moving out of my old, tiny one-bedroom apartment, and third moving my accumulated junk into a new and relatively-expansive private home.<\/p>\n

So now I’m part of the landed gentry<\/a>…<\/p>\n

But as I also discovered, this process continues “even to this day.” \u00a0Which means that while I’ve moved all my accumulated belongings into the new house, much of that “stuff” remains in boxes or big piles scattered mostly in the farther-back rooms. \u00a0But now I have time…<\/p>\n

So anyway,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to get back in the swing of things, I came up with the idea of looking back at what I was doing about \u00a0this time last year. \u00a0That led me to\u00a0\u201cThere he goes again<\/a>,” from May 30, 2016.<\/p>\n

Since then the phrase “there he goes again”<\/em> <\/strong>has taken on a whole new meaning.<\/p>\n

\"SwampWaterPoster.jpg\"Last year’s\u00a0\u201cThere he goes again<\/a>” was about my projected June 2016 kayaking trip deep into the Okefenokee Swamp<\/a>. \u00a0This was to be my second overnight-camping trek into the swamp, which “despite it\u2019s fearsome reputation \u2013 as illustrated by the lurid movie poster at right …\u00a0is quite peaceful.”<\/p>\n

It turned out to be quite an exciting\u00a0second trip into the Okefenokee<\/a>. \u00a0Among other things I saw some fifty alligators during the first hour of paddling. \u00a0(Then I stopped counting.)<\/em><\/p>\n

And I camped at the\u00a0CANAL RUN shelter<\/a>, “some nine miles in from the Foster State Park launch site.” \u00a0 And \u00a0(Complete with its own in-house resident gator.) \u00a0<\/em>Third, because it was so early in the season the canoe-only trails were much vegetated-over. \u00a0Which meant that many times I had to “butt-scootch” my kayak over a barely-sunken log, and sometimes had to stick my hand out, grab another log and finish pulling the kayak only. \u00a0The last<\/em> <\/strong>time I reached my left hand out I saw a patch of white.<\/p>\n

It turned out to be yet another gator – though rather smaller than the one shown at the top of the page – and “smiling” nicely at what he no doubt thought was a tasty new snack.<\/p>\n

But now back to that phrase\u00a0\u201cthere he goes again\u201d<\/em><\/strong> having taken on a whole new meaning.<\/p>\n

On a hunch – in writing up this post – I\u00a0Googled<\/a>\u00a0“trump ‘there he goes again'” and got 4,200,000 results. \u00a0Of those 4,200,000 posts, many seem to have been dated before the election. \u00a0See for example\u00a0Donald Trump: There He Goes Again | HuffPost<\/a>: \u00a0From July 19, 2016, Trump was quoted as saying that\u00a0John McCain<\/a>\u00a0“is no war hero … because he was captured.\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, from April 5, 2017, there was\u00a0There He Goes Again: \u00a0On NAFTA Trump Fails To Live Up To What He Says, And American Workers Will Pay For It<\/a>. \u00a0The post – written by “Chuck Jones, President, United Steelworkers Local 1999” – noted a local plant shutdown that had “outraged” Trump on the campaign trail, but not a bit since he’s taken office:<\/p>\n

President-Elect Donald Trump tweeted his outrage when the shutdown was announced. \u00a0But President Trump hasn\u2019t said a thing since… \u00a0I could see it coming back in February when, speaking about what he had been calling the U.S.\u2019s \u201cworst trade deal ever,\u201d and a \u201cdisaster,” he said NAFTA just needed \u201ctweaking.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

(Jones was referring to the\u00a0North American Free Trade Agreement<\/a>. \u00a0See the notes for more.) \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And finally, there was this from May 5, 2017: \u00a0There He Goes Again\u2026 Trump Praises Single Payer Healthcare<\/a>. \u00a0It seems that shortly after celebrating “the 1\/3 passage of the American Healthcare Act” – 1\/3<\/em> <\/strong>because it only passed the House and not the Senate, nor was it signed into law by the President – Donald Trump “sat with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and praised their country\u2019s single payer healthcare system<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

The conservative-bent writer went into detail about the problems confronting what he thought would be\u00a0positive<\/em><\/strong> change to our health-care system. \u00a0He also said Trump’s “public\u00a0concession that single payer healthcare is better than our own is going to do more\u00a0to\u00a0damage our effort than\u00a0Obamacare\u2019s failure.” \u00a0(And he noted among other things that Trump’s “misspeaks” prompted\u00a0Senator Bernie Sanders to burst into laughter and promise “to quote the president on the floor of the Senate when they debate their own version of the bill,” with video.) <\/em><\/p>\n

The article then concluded:<\/p>\n

“…we need the president to just stop talking. For the love of God, just smile and wave. Please?”<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Which would<\/em><\/strong> be a nice change, and brings us back to the photo at the top of the page.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, maybe it’s time for me<\/em><\/strong> to go back “back in to the swamp,” back to kayaking in the quiet, peaceful Okefenokee, home of Pogo Possum and his gentle friends:<\/p>\n

\u2026despite the discomfort that seems to got along with such efforts, it felt good to finally visit the home of\u00a0Pogo\u00a0Possum<\/a>. \u00a0To visit \u2013 even for such a short while \u2013 the \u201chollow trees amidst lushly rendered backdrops of North American wetlands, bayous, lagoons and backwoods<\/em>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And speaking of Pogo Possum, here\u2019s a bit of homespun wisdom to meditate\u2026<\/p>\n
