\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joan_Baez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joan Baez<\/a>\u00a0sang the original song &#8211; about Joe Hill &#8211; most memorably at <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Woodstock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Woodstock<\/a>,\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">back in the summer of 1969.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Another word of explanation. \u00a0The day after the last election &#8211; November 9, 2016, in case you&#8217;ve forgotten &#8211; a phrase came trickling up from my\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Confabulation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">memory vault<\/a>. \u00a0In fact, I did a post on Facebook, reminding people of &#8220;what Joan Baez said: \u00a0&#8216;<strong><em>DON&#8217;T MOURN. \u00a0ORGANIZE!<\/em><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But then I had to explain it was actually <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joe Hill<\/a>\u00a0who said that, but she&#8217;s the one who made the saying famous. <em>\u00a0(At Woodstock, &#8220;back in our hippie days.&#8221;) \u00a0<\/em>As an aside, <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joe Hill<\/a>\u00a0was both a <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Labor activist\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labor_activist\">labor activist<\/a> and a song-writer, and as such was credited with inventing the term\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/idioms.thefreedictionary.com\/pie+in+the+sky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">pie in the sky<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Which could also refer to Donald Trump, but that would mean\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/idioms.thefreedictionary.com\/go+off+on+a+tangent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">going off on a tangent<\/a>&#8230;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So anyway &#8211; and to make a long story short: \u00a0Today I finally uploaded Joan&#8217;s\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PX7M9psH0rM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">\u201cJoe Hill last night<\/a>,\u201d and listened to it on my\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IPod_Shuffle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">iPod Shuffle<\/a>\u00a0as I did my weekly two hours of kayaking.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when I was struck by the line at the end of the song: \u00a0&#8220;Where working men defend their rights, it&#8217;s there you&#8217;ll find Joe Hill.&#8221; \u00a0Which is what makes the resulting comparison in this post so\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Irony\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">ironic<\/a>. \u00a0<em>(Either that, or\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/incongruous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">incongruous<\/a><\/em><em>. \u00a0I always get those two \u00a0mixed up.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/e\/e9\/Donald_Trump_NYMA.jpg\/170px-Donald_Trump_NYMA.jpg\" alt=\"A black-and-white photograph of Donald Trump as a teenager, smiling and wearing a dark uniform with various badges and a light-colored stripe crossing his right shoulder. This image was taken while Trump was in the New York Military Academy in 1964.\" \/>The thing is, in some strange way\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; educated at the\u00a0<a title=\"New York Military Academy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Military_Academy\">New York Military Academy<\/a>, then the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Wharton School\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wharton_School\">Wharton School<\/a><em>\u00a0(at right)<\/em> <strong><em>and<\/em> <\/strong>worth an estimated 3.7 billion dollars* &#8211; has somehow become a hero to the (white) American working man.<\/p>\n<p>See for example\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2016\/10\/what-will-happen-to-the-trump-die-hards\/504032\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Trump&#8217;s fans have more to lose than Trump himself<\/a>. \u00a0That article noted that whatever the outcome of the election, Trump would remain &#8220;more or less intact &#8230; rich and privileged and more famous than ever.&#8221; \u00a0However:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The same cannot be said for the millions of Americans who have looked to Trump to save them. \u00a0These folks &#8230; the <strong>angry, white, blue-collar workers<\/strong> who are outraged or terrified that America has become some topsy-turvy multi-cultural nightmare where a hard-working man cannot make a decent living &#8230; will emerge from this circus worse off than before.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See also\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/olddogthoughts.com\/2016\/11\/05\/donald-trump-a-working-mans-hero-in-us-coal-country-us-election-2016-abc-news-australian-broadcasting-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Donald Trump a working man\u2019s hero in US coal country<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the future may not be so rosy for <em> <a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/arts-and-entertainment\/wp\/2015\/09\/01\/why-does-everyone-call-donald-trump-the-donald-its-an-interesting-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">The Donald<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0In another line from from <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PX7M9psH0rM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">\u201cJoe Hill<\/a>,\u201d Joan Baez noted, &#8220;&#8216;The Copper Bosses killed you Joe, They shot you Joe&#8217; says I.&#8221; \u00a0In DJT&#8217;s case, the same professor who predicted &#8211; back in September &#8211; that Trump would win is now saying that he&#8217;ll be impeached. \u00a0And in another irony the <strong><em>Democrats<\/em><\/strong> won&#8217;t be behind the impeachment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/11\/15\/politics\/allan-lichtman-professor-predicts-trump-impeachment-erin-burnett\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Allan Lichtman<\/a>\u00a0recently noted that Republicans are nervous about Donald Trump, for reasons including that he&#8217;s a &#8220;loose cannon&#8221; and that no one know what he<em> really<\/em> believes. \u00a0&#8220;He can&#8217;t be controlled. \u00a0The Republicans would vastly prefer to have Mike Pence, an absolutely predictable down-the-pipe conservative Republican.*&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Which &#8211; you <em>could<\/em> say &#8211; was what happened to\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Joe Hill<\/a>. \u00a0The &#8220;Copper bosses&#8221; couldn&#8217;t control him, so they had him convicted of murder in a &#8220;controversial trial.&#8221; \u00a0In Donald&#8217;s case, if his\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Political_boss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">party bosses<\/a>\u00a0can&#8217;t control him, they may resort to impeaching him in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, and seeing him convicted in the Republican-controlled Senate.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0(See also &#8211; for example &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=3647\" rel=\"bookmark\">That OTHER \u201cTeflon Don<\/a>,\u201d which noted \u2013 back in March \u2013 that Trump\u00a0\u201cmay well be the first president in American history to get<strong> both<\/strong> impeached and convicted.\u201d)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And if <strong><em>that<\/em> <\/strong>were to happen, Trump would remain forever as a hero to many. <em>\u00a0(Untarnished by his actual performance in office.)<\/em> \u00a0As the original song said, &#8220;Takes more than guns to kill a man&#8230; \u00a0Says Joe &#8216;I didn&#8217;t die.'&#8221; \u00a0And it may well take more than an impeachment-and-conviction to tarnish the Donald&#8217;s reputation with the American working man. <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And so the final stanza of\u00a0 \u201c<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PX7M9psH0rM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">I dreamed I saw Don Trump last night<\/a>&#8221;
