or\u00a0<\/em><em><a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maverick_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Maverick<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<em>in town&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 *<\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/0\/0d\/Muse_reading_Louvre_CA2220.jpg\/220px-Muse_reading_Louvre_CA2220.jpg\" width=\"149\" height=\"249\" \/>I have to admit I&#8217;ve been pretty much\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/stymie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">stymie<\/a>d since the election, last November 8. \u00a0The best I could come up with since then was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5510\">\u201cTrump is like a box of chocolates<\/a>.&#8221; \u00a0(<em>Posted November 13, nine days ago.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s as if the\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Muses<\/a>\u00a0have abandoned me. \u00a0On the one hand I want to be fair and not cranky. \u00a0<em>(Like so many other people my age.) \u00a0<\/em>But on the other hand I have this deep sense of\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/foreboding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">foreboding<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, one project I&#8217;m working on is the recent hubbub about\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em><a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/11\/18\/politics\/mike-pence-hamilton-musical\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Mike Pence [being] \u2018harassed\u2019 by the cast of \u2018Hamilton<\/a>,&#8217; the Broadway musical. \u00a0My point there would be that that was simply an exercise of the First Amendment&#8217;s\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Right_to_petition_in_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">right to petition in the United States<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to<strong> petition the Government for a redress of grievances<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Another project was inspired by a recent comment from my wacko lady friend. \u00a0<em>(See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=5210\">\u2018Mi Dulce\u2019 \u2013 and Donald Trump \u2013 made me a Contrarian<\/a>.) \u00a0<\/em>It was about Donald Trump basically saying to Obama, &#8220;<strong><em>You&#8217;re fired!<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; \u00a0The point there would be that according to her reasoning &#8211; &#8220;and I use the term loosely*&#8221; &#8211; the American people will be able to say the same thing to DJT within four years. <em>\u00a0(See\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twenty-second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution<\/a>.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But both projects are\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/slow-going\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">slow-going<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/a\/ac\/Nick_Adams_The_Rebel.JPG\" alt=\"Nick Adams The Rebel.JPG\" width=\"149\" height=\"199\" \/>Then I hit on the idea of comparing Donald Trump to &#8220;Johnny Yuma,&#8221; the original\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Rebel_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Rebel<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">from the TV show back in the early 1960s. <em>\u00a0(1959-1961.) \u00a0<\/em>But first a word about the photo at the top of the page. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a simple explanation. \u00a0I like the top image in any post to be a full column wide. \u00a0But the best photo I could find of &#8220;Johnny Yuma&#8221; was a half-column wide. \u00a0See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=508\" rel=\"bookmark\">On \u201cJohnny YUMA was a rebel<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So instead I borrowed a photo from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=4000\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cIs there a new \u2018Maverick\u2019 in town<\/a>?&#8221; \u00a0That post from last April was about\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/maverick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">mavericks<\/a>\u00a0in general:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Originally the term referred to \u201cTexas lawyer <a class=\"extiw\" title=\"w:Samuel Maverick\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Samuel_Maverick\">Samuel Maverick<\/a>, who refused to brand his cattle. The surname <i>Maverick<\/i> is of Welsh origin, from Welsh <i>mawr-rwyce<\/i>, meaning \u2018valiant hero&#8230;\u201d\u00a0 As an adjective the term applies to someone who shows \u201cindependence in thoughts or actions.\u201d \u00a0As a noun the term means someone \u201cwho does not <a title=\"abide\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/abide\">abide<\/a> by rules.\u201d \u00a0Either that, or someone who\u00a0\u201ccreates or uses unconventional and\/or controversial ideas or practices.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It also asked the musical question: \u00a0\u201cCan you say\u00a0<em><a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/prescience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">prescient<\/a><\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>But we digress! \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Speaking of Donald Trump, I\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_(verb)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Googled<\/a>\u00a0the words &#8220;Donald Trump rebel&#8221; and got 46,300,00 results. \u00a0Of course some results were about something different than my idea. <em>(Things like\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/11\/12\/world\/middleeast\/donald-trump-syria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\"><b>Donald<\/b> <b>Trump<\/b> Likely to End Aid for <strong>Rebels<\/strong> Fighting Syrian Government<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.upi.com\/Entertainment_News\/TV\/2016\/10\/16\/Donald-Trumps-wife-daughters-rebel-in-SNL-parody-of-Beyonces-Sorry-video\/8451476622321\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\"><b>Donald<\/b> <b>Trump<\/b>&#8216;s wife, daughters <b>rebel<\/b> in &#8216;SNL&#8217; parody<\/a>.) \u00a0<\/em>But others were more on point. <strong><em>\u00a0Kind of&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From June 2015 came this: \u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.therebel.media\/donald_trump_s_announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Donald Trump&#8217;s announcement &#8220;refreshing,&#8221; &#8220;inspiring<\/a>.&#8221; \u00a0It was about immigration and &#8220;the current situation in Iraq,&#8221; courtesy of\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Rebel_Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">The Rebel Media<\/a>. <em>\u00a0(The &#8220;conservative Canadian online political and social commentary media platform founded in February 2015 by former <a title=\"Sun News Network\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sun_News_Network\">Sun News Network<\/a> host <a title=\"Ezra Levant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ezra_Levant\">Ezra Levant<\/a>.&#8221;)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/static2.politico.com\/dims4\/default\/924cf12\/2147483647\/resize\/1160x%3E\/quality\/90\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.politico.com%2F06%2Fff%2Fe259ee8c483e8085add2628a3eaa%2Ftrump-confederate-flag.jpg\" alt=\"A Confederate flag for sale at a recent Trump rally in Richmond, Virginia.\" width=\"194\" height=\"105\" \/>Another one was\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2016\/06\/2016-donald-trump-south-confederate-flag-racism-charleston-shooting-213954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">How the Rebel Flag Rose Again &#8211; and Is Helping Trump<\/a>. \u00a0That title pretty much speaks for itself.<\/p>\n<p>But what about <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=508\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cJohnny YUMA<\/a>,\u201d the rebel we knew and loved from 1959 to 1961? \u00a0That post had two key points, the first being that <em>true<\/em> rebels tend to die young.\u00a0 (<em>Think <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Dean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">James Dean<\/a><\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>The second was that we\u2019re <em>fascinated<\/em> by rebels, a term defined at least two ways. \u00a0One says a rebel is a person who \u201crefuses allegiance to, resists, or rises in arms against the government or ruler of his or her country.\u201d \u00a0The alternate definition is of a \u201cperson who stands up for their own personal opinions despite what anyone else says.\u201d\u00a0 See <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=rebel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">Urban Dictionary<\/a>, which added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s all about being an individual and refusing to follow a crowd that forces you to think the same way they do even if it means becoming an outcast to society.\u00a0 True rebels know who they are and do not compromise their individuality\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All of which could apply to Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>But then there was this observation, from\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tvobscurities.com\/articles\/the_rebel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url\">The Rebel | Television Obscurities<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yuma faced down intolerance, distrust, greed, confusion and revenge.\u00a0 Despite his rebellious nature, Yuma <strong>respected<\/strong> law and order and despised abuse of power.\u00a0 He stood up for the weak and downtrodden.\u00a0 He traveled alone and was often forced to work alone because he was the only one willing to stand up to the bad guys.
