{"id":3722,"date":"2016-03-19T18:54:10","date_gmt":"2016-03-19T18:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=3722"},"modified":"2025-03-10T23:56:27","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T23:56:27","slug":"a-look-back-at-last-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=3722","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Protestant Whore,&#8221; and other posts from last March&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 *<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I started this blog a year ago. \u00a0My first post came on March 12, 2015, with <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=14\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cBirdman,\u201d the movie<\/a>. That initial post explained how I signed up for the domain name, \u201cGeorgia Wasp,\u201d while adding that there<em> was<\/em> a problem. Back then there was\u00a0a web-site, <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.datingpsychos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">DatingPsychos.com<\/a>, and one of its bulletins told of a crazy guy \u2013 \u201cAlias \u2018Georgia Wasp.\u2019\u201d The site said this guy was a \u201cpathological liar\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 married many times and has cheated on each wife with multiple partners!\u201d \u00a0So I had to start off with &#8220;a heads up:\u00a0 <strong><em>I\u2019m not that guy!!!<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Also in that first post, I explained <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?page_id=2\">how I chose &#8220;THAT &#8216;WASP&#8217; NAME<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Moving right along, on March 18 I posted\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=4\" rel=\"bookmark\">Jeremiah and the Parable of the Dirty Underwear<\/a>. \u00a0For the Bible version, see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?version=RSV&amp;search=Jeremiah+13:1-11\">\u00a0Jeremiah 13:1-11<\/a>. <em>\u00a0(An &#8220;interesting read.&#8221;) \u00a0<\/em>It also cited a\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Golden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">Harry Golden<\/a>\u00a0essay with a similar story. \u00a0As to that I wrote, &#8220;few people would use &#8216;schmooze&#8217; and &#8216;death&#8217; in the same sentence, let alone the same title, but Golden did.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The next stop &#8211; metaphorically speaking &#8211; was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=51\" rel=\"bookmark\">Pink Floyd and \u201crigid schooling<\/a>.&#8221; \u00a0That post compared modern musicians like\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pink_Floyd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">Pink Floyd<\/a>\u00a0with old-time Bible prophets like\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isaiah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">Isaiah<\/a>. For example, in\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewallanalysis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\"><em>The Wall<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Pink Floyd took issue with &#8211; among other things &#8211; &#8220;an out-of-touch education system bent on producing compliant cogs in the societal wheel.&#8221; \u00a0In a similar way &#8211; according to guys like <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Isaac_Asimov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">Isaac Asimov<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; the Bible prophets of 3,000 or more years ago were <em>also<\/em>\u00a0considered the \u201cradicals of their day.\u201d \u00a0Isaiah for one took great issue with the kind of priesthood that was &#8220;primarily interested in the <em><strong>minutiae of ritual<\/strong><\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/i\/pix\/2014\/10\/28\/1414461084396_Image_galleryImage_No_Merchandising_Editoria.JPG\" alt=\"Exodus: Of Gods and Kings, out on December 12 in U.S. theaters tells the story of Moses (played by Christian Bale, left) rising up against the Egyptian pharaoh Rhamses (played by Joel Edgerton, right)\" width=\"206\" height=\"139\" \/>I posted <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=246\" rel=\"bookmark\">On \u201cExodus: Gods and Kings<\/a>&#8221; on March 28, 2015. \u00a0I noted the natural inclination to compare that 2014 movie with the 1956\u00a0DeMille film, <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Ten_Commandments_%281956_film%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\"><em>The Ten Commandments<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That included one big difference: \u00a0In\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ridley_Scott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">Ridley Scott<\/a>&#8216;s 2014\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\">version &#8211; including the image at left, of Moses and &#8220;Pharaoh&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\"><em>God<\/em><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0was portrayed by &#8220;a <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\"><strong>bratty kid with an English accent<\/strong><\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\">.&#8221; \u00a0I also noted that &#8220;the Moses played by\u00a0<a title=\"Christian Bale\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christian_Bale\">Christian Bale<\/a>\u00a0<em>was<\/em> more human, more like us today and therefore more believable.&#8221; \u00a0I ended that post with two points:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"hac\">First:\u00a0 To the <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vocabulary.com\/dictionary\/icon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">icons<\/a> that we choose to throw our cares and responsibilities on \u2013 like Moses \u2013 we followers are pretty much a <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/idioms.thefreedictionary.com\/pain+in+the+neck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">pain in the neck<\/a>&#8230; \u00a0Second:\u00a0 <strong><em>Exodus: Gods and Kings<\/em><\/strong> is a pretty good movie and well worth seeing, if only in the interest of <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/idioms.thefreedictionary.com\/broaden+horizons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">broadening your horizons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"hac\">And finally, I closed out the month of March 2015 with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=241\" rel=\"bookmark\">\u201cWhen adultery was proof of \u2018loyalty<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"hac\">Looking back &#8211; a year later &#8211; I think I may have been a bit\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/prescience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">prescient<\/a>. \u00a0Harry&#8217;s essay on &#8220;when adultery was proof of loyalty&#8221; was set during the time of the\u00a0<a title=\"Commonwealth of England\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Commonwealth_of_England\">Commonwealth of England<\/a>. \u00a0That came after\u00a0<a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eyewitnesstohistory.com\/charlesI.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">the Execution of Charles I<\/a>, in 1649. \u00a0Basically a bunch of\u00a0<em><a class=\"find\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Definitions_of_Puritanism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">radical conservatives<\/a><\/em>\u00a0took over the government, shook things up, and made every Englishman&#8217;s life miserable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"hac\">Which naturally gave rise to a whole lot of quasi-religious <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hypocrisy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">hypocrisy<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One may easily see how desire for office or promotion led to hypocrisy.\u00a0 If sour looks, upturned eyes, nasal twang, speech garnished with Old Testament texts, were means to favor, there were others who could assume them besides those naturally afflicted with such habits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At the time I asked, &#8220;Does any of this sound familiar?&#8221; \u00a0In closing I noted one of Harry Golden&#8217;s main points in his essay, that <a class=\"find\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Historic_recurrence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"f:url noopener\">history repeats itself in cycles<\/a>. \u00a0Which led to the question:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>&#8220;Which cycle are we in now??&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 *<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/f\/f1\/Welch-McCarthy-Hearings.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"513\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><a title=\"Joseph N.
