At the top of this page you&#8217;ll see <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?page_id=2\">ABOUT THAT \u201cWASP\u201d NAME<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?page_id=1045\">ABOUT THE BLOG<\/a>. That&#8217;s where I set out what kind of posts I hoped to do. (To honor Harry.) The categories on the right side include <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?cat=5\">Politics<\/a>, but the last politics post I did was back on November 28, 2022. (Just after the mid-term elections. &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=13706\">After the election 2022<\/a>&#8230;&#8221;) So it&#8217;s about time for a new post on today&#8217;s politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In part this post will include a review of past posts to see how any <em>predictions<\/em> turned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like back in June 2018 I posted &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=7349\">The rope has to tighten SLOWLY<\/a>.&#8221; It started off talking about then-president Trump&#8217;s pardon power, and especially whether he could pardon<em><strong> himself<\/strong><\/em>. I first wanted to call the post, \u201cThe truth will come out.&#8221;&nbsp;<em>(Because that\u2019s what I believe.)&nbsp;<\/em>But then I started re-reading&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrE188E4C9bNbMASippCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBybGY3bmpvBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529892997\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.amazon.com%2fAll-Presidents-Men-Bob-Woodward%2fdp%2f1476770514\/RK=0\/RS=VJwLKRKXS.w7X8zA6FbPyP_245Q-\" target=\"_blank\">All the President\u2019s Men<\/a>,&nbsp;the 1974 book by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bob-Woodward\/e\/B000APXDGS\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1\">Bob Woodward<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Carl-Bernstein\/e\/B00O1YKYW0\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_2\">Carl Bernstein<\/a>.&nbsp;I recalled the part where <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7JZn3i9bZZ8ALClpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529892583\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fDeep_Throat_%2528Watergate%2529\/RK=0\/RS=.mZSHJp2wzZrZspyP6PaaQ66kc8-\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Throat<\/a> lectured&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bob-Woodward\/e\/B000APXDGS\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1\">Woodward<\/a>&nbsp;on the importance of building a conspiracy investigation&nbsp;<strong><em>slowly<\/em><\/strong>, \u201cfrom the outer edges in.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>(In an obscure parking garage at 3:00 a.m.)&nbsp;<\/em>Or as one old saying goes, \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=A2KIbNBlGDBbcIYA9FJpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529907429\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikiquote.org%2fwiki%2fJustice\/RK=0\/RS=mYBLDT4fIKCiVNL7ZdrsDqaI1Fs-\" target=\"_blank\">The wheels of justice grind slowly<\/a>&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That last was addressed to those who asked, \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ61azGjBbFjcAuAdpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTBydDI5cXVuBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwM2BHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529908020\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.washingtonpost.com%2fnews%2fpost-politics%2fwp%2f2018%2f05%2f17%2fmueller-trump-russia-investigation-one-year-anniversary%2f\/RK=0\/RS=hHsZxZ2jtOG9LbAJpy.VOIezm4c-\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=A0geK.ngHDBblOUADUBpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529908576\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.csmonitor.com%2f2003%2f1118%2fp09s02-coop.html\/RK=0\/RS=VWA2hp0fCYalKGPukddWFRzA614-\" target=\"_blank\">American need for&nbsp;instant&nbsp;gratification<\/a>.&#8221;)<\/em> But back to 1974, and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7JZn3i9bZZ8ALClpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529892583\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fDeep_Throat_%2528Watergate%2529\/RK=0\/RS=.mZSHJp2wzZrZspyP6PaaQ66kc8-\" target=\"_blank\">Deep Throat<\/a> lecturing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Bob-Woodward\/e\/B000APXDGS\/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1\">Woodward<\/a>&nbsp;on the importance of building an investigation&nbsp;<strong><em>slowly<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp;You can read the full lecture \u2013 and background \u2013 at page 196 of the Simon and Schuster (1974) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/r.search.aol.com\/_ylt=AwrJ7Jb7PTBbr74A_AhpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByNXM5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--\/RV=2\/RE=1529917052\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fAll_the_President%2527s_Men\/RK=0\/RS=EHTfwLBpb_KFww9cPCxEFC_bcOo-\" target=\"_blank\">hardback<\/a>, but here&#8217;s the highlight:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cA conspiracy like this \u2026 a conspiracy investigation \u2026&nbsp;<strong>the rope has to tighten slowly around everyone\u2019s neck.&nbsp;You build convincingly from the outer edges in<\/strong>, you get ten times the evidence you need against the Hunts and Liddys.&nbsp;They feel hopelessly finished \u2013 they may not talk right away, but the grip is on them.&nbsp;Then you move up and do the same thing to the next level.&nbsp;If you shoot too high and miss, then everybody feels more secure.&nbsp;Lawyers work this way.&nbsp;I\u2019m sure smart reporters do too.&nbsp;You\u2019ve put the investigation back months.&nbsp;It puts everybody on the defensive \u2013 editors, FBI agents, everybody has to go into a crouch after this.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The book added, \u201cWoodward swallowed hard.&nbsp; He deserved the lecture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And speaking of slow wheels of justice, &#8220;Did they have to grind<em><strong> this<\/strong><\/em> slow?&#8221; Meaning it&#8217;s only now &#8211; three years after he left office &#8211; that Trump finally got &#8220;convicted&#8221; of something. Specifically, the May 9, 2023 jury verdict saying he&#8217;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=Awrhckk5VV1kWpULtDdpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1683867065\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.nytimes.com%2flive%2f2023%2f05%2f09%2fnyregion%2ftrump-carroll-rape-trial-verdict\/RK=0\/RS=EYTOEN4sXFaG0tK8poCiSXDwuEs-\" target=\"_blank\">Liable for Sexual Abuse and Defamation<\/a>. (And must pay $5 million in damages.) Back in June 2018 I wrote that the federal Mueller Investigation might end &#8211; and it  did, without accountability &#8211; but that wouldn&#8217;t be<em><strong> the end of the story<\/strong><\/em>. The Mueller investigation would be followed by &#8220;a whole new series of<strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>state&nbsp;criminal proceedings.&#8221;&nbsp;(As in a state like New York, &#8220;where &#8216;The Donald&#8217; or his minions have done business.&#8221;) And then, I said, &#8220;the &#8216;noose-tightening&#8217; would start all over again.&#8221; And it did, and it continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet it remains true that from 1973 to 2023, Trump dodged all legal accountability for his actions. (For an analysis of his tactics &#8211; &#8220;deny, deflect, delay&#8221; &#8211; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrFcopsVl1kkVELwOZpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzcEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1683867373\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2ftime.com%2f6215419%2ftrump-legal-trouble-key-strategies%2f\/RK=0\/RS=uOK.DvzbZjVHhpT2Hf8uvy0_EXI-\" target=\"_blank\">How Trump Survived Decades of Legal Trouble<\/a>.) But even with the sex-abuse and defamation verdicts, he remains for many people &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=3647\">Teflon Don<\/a>.&#8221; See for example the recent poll saying <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrFD2rx21pk93MOa.BpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzYEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1683704945\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.usatoday.com%2fstory%2fnews%2fpolitics%2f2023%2f05%2f07%2fbiden-trump-desantis-2024-election-poll%2f70192303007%2f\/RK=0\/RS=7of3X21RCYn7ww6Ama0RxKNzRHg-\" target=\"_blank\">Biden trails Trump<\/a> in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election. I&#8217;ll address that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrFSM9S7V5kF.gO2mRpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1683971538\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fidioms.thefreedictionary.com%2fbombshell\/RK=0\/RS=ZPyOesx5ih_hr787i1i5J8AJrzI-\" target=\"_blank\">bombshell<\/a> in a future post &#8211; including a reference to polls showing a &#8220;red wave&#8221; in the 2022 mid-terms &#8211; but for now I&#8217;ll say that&#8217;s hardly surprising. In November 2021 I posted <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=11718\">Donald Trump \u2013 the newest \u201cUndead Revenant<\/a>?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Trump seem[s] to rise from the political ashes, not unlike the proverbial&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7J4gA5hhhl0ATBVpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzMEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637381024\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fidioms.thefreedictionary.com%2frise%2blike%2ba%2bphoenix%2bfrom%2bthe%2bashes\/RK=0\/RS=oU8ivGIMNRhZBGdQGPHOE2CZH4E-\" target=\"_blank\">Phoenix<\/a>. Or maybe it\u2019s more accurate to say rising again,&nbsp;<strong><em>like a &amp;^%$ Zombie<\/em><\/strong>. (Which the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE1xS3AZhhypwAtBBpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzQEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1637380664\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fdictionary.cambridge.org%2fus%2fdictionary%2fenglish%2fzombie\/RK=0\/RS=gU2XDM_6AIziUmQ3FAoE_Tk9.sA-\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a>&nbsp;defines as a frightening creature, a seemingly&nbsp;dead person&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/brought\">brought<\/a>&nbsp;back to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/life\">life<\/a>, but without&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/human\">human<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/us\/dictionary\/english\/quality\">qualities<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, the <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=11718\">Undead Revenant<\/a> post did mention one good reason Trump might not run in 2024. Call it the &#8220;Adlai Stevenson effect.&#8221; Some of his advisers &#8211; back in November 2021 &#8211; had a plan to dissuade him. They pointed out that if Trump ran but lost again in 2024, &#8220;he would join Stevenson as one of history\u2019s serial losers,&#8221; and Trump &#8220;<em><strong>hates <\/strong><\/em>losers.&#8221; (See also <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrFecdR8F9kyGAcyo9pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzQEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1684037841\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.rawstory.com%2fdonald-trump-loser-2658640706%2f\/RK=0\/RS=Nd4dlKg9XdwVAslxXYp6E4ZK3CQ-\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump can&#8217;t stand being called a &#8220;loser<\/a>.&#8221;) Maybe that will turn out to be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of which brings up the so-called old Chinese curse, &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrEr3CM619k1QUcApxpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1684036620\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fMay_you_live_in_interesting_times\/RK=0\/RS=p5Qg739KLtrEKMEG4FlUE7BXrfQ-\" target=\"_blank\">May you live in interesting times<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrEr3CM619k1QUcApxpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1684036620\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fMay_you_live_in_interesting_times\/RK=0\/RS=p5Qg739KLtrEKMEG4FlUE7BXrfQ-\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a> noted, &#8220;While seemingly a blessing, the expression is normally used ironically.&#8221; The irony is that to many, &#8220;life is better in &#8216;uninteresting times&#8217; of peace and tranquility&nbsp;than in &#8216;interesting&#8217; ones, which are usually times of trouble.&#8221; (The way I heard it the curse went, &#8220;May your children live in interesting times.&#8221; Meaning somebody must have told our parents that.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, I&#8217;d say &#8220;time of trouble&#8221; aptly describes today&#8217;s political climate in Washington. Or as another Chinese saying goes, &#8220;Better to be a dog in times of tranquility than a human in times of chaos.&#8221; That <strong><em>chaos<\/em><\/strong> too could describe today&#8217;s politics in Washington.
