Which makes this a good time to look back on 2021, and &#8211; in my case &#8211; back on some draft posts I never finished. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One such project &#8211; last revised on January 24, 202<strong><em>1<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; I tentatively called, &#8220;Flag distress, etc.&#8221; (And that&#8217;s why I call it a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ6y2zB9VhehkAuH9pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641379892\/RO=10\/RU=http%3a%2f%2ftalysmana.com%2fwhat-is-a-first-draft%2f\/RK=0\/RS=mHvTSy4uPnz8k0qPacGdO2ML_K4-\" target=\"_blank\">draft<\/a>. A &#8220;place to make mistakes, to try out new ideas, to explore variations on existing ideas.&#8221;) It had to do with Trump supporters flying the American flag upside down, explained below. But for some reason I started the draft post off like this: &#8220;Thank you, Donald, for just giving me the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geK.BbmA1grWoAHF1pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzQEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1611532507\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.masterclass.com%2farticles%2fhow-to-write-a-lede-in-journalism\/RK=0\/RS=L1pGZqKW8MqUoOfTymx2lwljZyw-\" target=\"_blank\">lede<\/a>&nbsp;to this new post:&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geKaO5lw1g3hoAuy1pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1611532346\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fnews.yahoo.com%2ftrump-shuns-ex-presidents-club-162705419.html\/RK=0\/RS=YV9bNJcWvE_PsjGWYmk33Bg6EJE-\" target=\"_blank\">Trump shuns ex-presidents club<\/a>.&#8221; Along with a note that &#8220;for the uninitiated, this highly-exclusive club is \u2013 or was \u2013 made up of five men:&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>After serving the highest office of American government, five men \u2013 Jimmy Carter, the late George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama \u2013 became members of the world\u2019s most exclusive fraternity. In&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geKI80CdVhCz4AVmtpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzIEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641380277\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.goodreads.com%2fbook%2fshow%2f44063670-team-of-five\/RK=0\/RS=maqNp3xc1on5IXvpsH2Rnxe4kEs-\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Team of Five<\/em><\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ61zsDdVhjOcAPk1pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzIEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641381485\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fKate_Andersen_Brower\/RK=0\/RS=h9PVVsy52uaLHsPmgDe8BxLhYXI-\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Andersen Brower<\/a> [offers] a glimpse into the complex relationships of these five former presidents, and how each of these men views his place in a nation that has been upended by the Oval Office\u2019s current, norm-breaking occupant, President Donald Trump.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Incidentally, the full book citation is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7FRTmw1gOJgAAQ9pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzUEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1611533267\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.amazon.com%2fTeam-Five-Presidents-Club-Trump%2fdp%2f0062668978\/RK=0\/RS=Z2mVZckSw3hV8i32sLP9SZUkkdE-\" target=\"_blank\">Team of Five: The Presidents Club in the Age of Trump<\/a>. The book itself is said to offer a &#8220;poignant, news-making look at the lives of the five former presidents in the wake of their White House years, including the surprising friendships they have formed through shared perspective and empathy.&#8221; Unsurprisingly, that group of five former presidents does not include Donald Trump. (Perhaps by mutual consent, if not relief.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another note: It&#8217;s now a group of <strong><em>four,<\/em><\/strong> since <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ6y2mC9VhqLEAqwVpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641380903\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fGeorge_H._W._Bush\/RK=0\/RS=7CQn2GYLfaW2gUB4GpPKK0Pci5Q-\" target=\"_blank\">George H. W. Bush<\/a> died on November 30, 2018. And <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ7FzyCtVhp.0AShtpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641380723\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fJimmy_Carter\/RK=0\/RS=fm6X5srZ9N2DLV_d17ikmBfAAoo-\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmy Carter<\/a> is now a ripe old 97 years of age. (&#8220;Bless his heart,&#8221; as we say in Georgia. And see also my last post, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=11817\">Will I REALLY live to 120<\/a>,&#8221; as to my own aspirations in that area.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I haven&#8217;t read <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrJ61zsDdVhjOcAPk1pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzIEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641381485\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fKate_Andersen_Brower\/RK=0\/RS=h9PVVsy52uaLHsPmgDe8BxLhYXI-\" target=\"_blank\">Ms. Brower<\/a>&#8216;s book yet, but I did read <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Presidents-Club-Exclusive-Fraternity-ebook\/dp\/B005GG0MIS\" target=\"_blank\">The Presidents Club:&nbsp; Inside the World\u2019s Most Exclusive Fraternity<\/a>.&nbsp;And in February 2016, I did a post reviewing the book, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiawasp.com\/?p=405\">Brother from another mother\u201d and other ex-Prez tales<\/a>. I ended that post with a photo of three ex-presidents, with a caption asking &#8220;Who\u2019ll be the newest member of&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Presidents-Club-Exclusive-Fraternity-ebook\/dp\/B005GG0MIS\" target=\"_blank\">The Presidents Club<\/a>&nbsp;on 1\/20\/17?&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I never dreamt that the answer would be &#8220;Donald Trump.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which brings us back to those upside-down American flags. I saw an example of the phenomenon just after the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=AwrE1x6OD9VhBCQA8EBpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641381903\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fInauguration_of_Joe_Biden\/RK=0\/RS=Or387xO2.ZCeNkQV.7rceDwrOI8-\" target=\"_blank\">Biden Inauguration<\/a>: &#8220;A lifted-up Georgia pickup truck with two American flags, with both of them flying upside down. I assume the driver was a Trump supporter, so I Googled &#8216;upside down american flag distress.&#8217;\u201d And found out that an upside-down American flag was designed to be a signal of \u201cDire distress and extreme danger to life or property.\u201d But it\u2019s also been used as a signal of protest, which to me brought up this thought, last year at this time: &#8220;No doubt the same people now flying the American flag upside down complained most loudly about professional athletes kneeling down during the National Anthem.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then again, it turns out that some people back in 2017 were <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A0geK.ChBtVhXG0AWwRpCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641379618\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.opposingviews.com%2fcategory%2fpeople-are-flying-american-flag-upside-down-today\/RK=0\/RS=tgbJLQIAKBvH2pvRbeqH.ZAK1qs-\" target=\"_blank\">Flying The Flag Upside Down To Protest Trump<\/a>. As in, &#8220;to protest <strong><em>Trump&#8217;s<\/em><\/strong> being president.&#8221; So I guess that&#8217;s why the call it &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.aol.com\/click\/_ylt=A2KLfSYqUtdhpJcATg1pCWVH;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1641530027\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2fconstitution.congress.gov%2fbrowse%2fessay%2famdt1_2_1%2f\/RK=0\/RS=7UF7NOdHUfVbbxUrA6.yoXveh2I-\" target=\"_blank\">Freedom of Speech<\/a>.&#8221; On that note, I can say &#8211; freely and without hesitation &#8211; that Donald Trump is my favorite <em><strong>EX-<\/strong><\/em>president. (And I hope he stays that way.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>* &nbsp; * &nbsp; * &nbsp; *<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a happier but likely unrelated note, I started another draft post in January 2021, &#8220;On the Beatles in Hamburg.&#8221; (Last modified January 30, 2021.)
